एक बार, एक संत साधना में लीन रहते हैं तभी एक व्यक्ति उनसे पूछता है, "मैं इस गाँव में नया हूँ, क्या आप मुझे बता सकते हैं यहाँ रहने वाले लोगों का स्वभाव कैसा है?" संत उस व्यक्ति से पूछते हैं, "तुम जिस गाँव में पहले रहते थे, वहाँ रहने वाले लोगों का स्वभाव कैसा था?" व्यक्ति बोलता है, "वहाँ के लोग अच्छे स्वभाव के नहीं थे।" तभी संत बोलते हैं, "इस नए गाँव में भी आपको अच्छे स्वभाव के लोग नहीं मिलेंगे।" व्यक्ति वहाँ से चला जाता है। फिर एक दूसरा व्यक्ति वहाँ आता है और वहाँ भी वही प्रश्न पूछता है। संत फिर से पूछते हैं, "तुम जिस गाँव में पहले रहते थे, वहाँ रहने वाले लोगों का स्वभाव कैसा था?" व्यक्ति बोलता है, "वहाँ के लोग बहुत ही अच्छे स्वभाव के थे।" तभी संत बोलते हैं, "इस नए गाँव में भी आपको अच्छे स्वभाव के लोग मिलेंगे।" शिष्य उनकी बात सुनकर संत से पूछते हैं, "गुरुजी, आपने एक ही गाँव के बारे में दोनों को अलग-अलग बातें क्यों बताई?" संत बोलते हैं, "जब सब तरफ बुराईयाँ देखते हैं तो आपको बुराईयाँ ही मिलती हैं और जब आप अच्छाइयों पे ध्यान केंद्रित करते हैं तो आपको अच्छाइयाँ ही मिलेंगी।"

Once, a saint was engrossed in meditation when a man approached him and asked, "I am new to this village. Can you tell me about the nature of the people who live here?" The saint inquired, "What was the nature of the people in the village where you lived before?" The man replied, "The people there had unpleasant traits." The saint then said, "In this new village, too, you will find people with similar traits." Disappointed, the man left.

Later, another person arrived and asked the same question. The saint again inquired about the nature of the people in the man's previous village. This time, the man replied, "The people there had wonderful qualities." The saint responded, "In this new village, too, you will find people with such virtues." Hearing this, the man felt hopeful.

The disciple, observing the difference in the saint's responses, asked, "Guruji, why did you tell them different things about the same village?" The saint explained, "When you focus on negativity, you will encounter negativity. However, when you focus on goodness, you will attract goodness."
