We are tackling a massive project today—a 680lb Gardner Denver 60 HP electric motor that has suffered a total meltdown. This unit came to our shop from a compressor after it completely seized up during operation.
The damage is intense: the drive-end bearing got so hot that it welded itself to the shaft. This caused the rotor to drop and grind against the stator, leading to a catastrophic winding blow-out. You can actually see the 'copper balls' and burnt slots inside the frame.
What you will see in this video:
Complete Teardown: Stripping the 60 HP motor to reveal the internal wreckage.
The 'Welded' Bearing: Fighting to remove a bearing that’s fused to the steel shaft using an impact wrench and Pozilock puller.
Technical Breakdown: Detailed look at the internal wiring, including 2-Delta vs. 1-Delta connections.
The Verdict: Assessing the extreme machine work needed, like sleeve and spray-welding, to see if it’s even worth the rebuild.
