Hi Matt with eTrailer, and today we're gonna be talking about the Yakima EXO Swing Away System on our 2023 Jeep Wagoneer L. Now this's gonna be a great way to get some extra storage out of the back of the Wagoneer. Now we do have a lot of storage back here, but if you plan on taking a longer trip, you have a lot of gear, or have a lot of people with you, you might need a little bit of extra storage. Now let's take a closer look at that swing away feature, since it is one of the biggest features about this. How we're gonna do that is just by twisting this wing nut, and once we loosen this up, we'll be able to pull this pin right next to it, just pulling along like that and then pushing out. And you'll be able to see how far it swings out.

Now once you have it out here, it'll lock into place once it hits 90 degrees, so I won't be able to close. Now we can kind of check out that hatch clearance. We're just gonna have barely enough room to open this up. It's gonna just barely miss our box, just with how the frame sits. Now that might change depending on if you have the box on the bottom or the top, or it could be dependent on a different trim package you have on your Wagoneer.

So this configuration of the swing away system is gonna be perfect if you plan on doing any camping or having this open for extended periods of time, maybe getting ready to do some fishing, or something else that's gonna require you to be outdoors. Now, this isn't gonna be a great setup if you plan on going to a parking lot, maybe getting out some groceries or anything like that because this is a larger vehicle and this does take up a lot of room on the side. It's gonna be really hard to open up on a parking lot. But if you are camping somewhere and you need to access multiple points, whether you've got everything you need out of the hatch and you need a closer look at anything up top or you just need it outta the way, you can still access that section underneath just by swinging that top section to the side. So you'll be able to access three different points of storage.

Now something I would like to point out, we're also gonna have an included kickstand you can use for this, that's really gonna be used for more of your extended periods of time, whether you are using this for a full day, having it extended like this, or just hours upon hours. Now if you're just opening it for a few minutes or maybe 10 minutes or so, then you don't need to use the kickstand for those cases. But after when you've taken everything out, you can put everything back into place, just swinging it around, making sure you put your pin back through so it holds everything down. And then we can shut our hatch. And then we can take some measurements.

Every measure from our back bumper to how far this is sticking out, it's gonna stick out a decent amount. So that's gonna be just under 69 inches and it's only gonna stick out about two feet on the sides. Now kind of keep in mind with those measurements, that is gonna take up a lot of room, so parking spots probably not gonna be ideal. Now campsites probably gonna be perfect though. But now we can close everything up. I'm gonna do that. I'm just gonna pull this pin on this pivot point here, just lifting up and pulling the system towards me until we get these arms right next to each other. And if at this point I just kind of like the lift up until that pin clicks into place and then I like the types of my wing nut back on, The locker box is gonna be great for anything that you don't want out in the elements, most likely your luggage and the basket's gonna be great for anything that you don't mind out in the elements. Anything that you don't mind tying down into place. Now the amount of space we're gonna add back here, if I go from our back bumper to the back of the carrier, that's gonna be just under 34 inches. So sometimes keep your mind if you are traveling around and you do need to park somewhere tight, this is gonna take a little bit of space, especially since the Wagoneer is a larger vehicle. So definitely keep that in mind if you're going in any tight parking spots. And for our ground clearance, going from the lowest point we have back here, that's gonna be 22 inches, which is actually pretty high. Just keep in mind when you are loading this up, it's gonna drop down a little bit, but I d
