Описание: The question being answered in this video is: draw and name all the isomers of a hydrocarbon with 6 carbon atoms and 12 hydrogens. This problem serves to illustrate the notion of unsaturation. A saturated alkane with six carbons must contain 14 hydrogen atoms in order to "use up" all the available carbon bonds. However if a ring or a double is introduced the number of carbon atoms that may be accomodated is reduced by two. For every ring and double bond in a molecule the number of hydrogens in the molecule drops by two. The power of bond-line notation is evident in here because it allows a speedy and more easily systematized inventory of what has already been drawn. There are 29 possible isomer with the formula C6H12. They are all listed and named in this exercise in nomenclature. This video was recorded at Father Henry Carr Secondary on January 2012.
