Kansas Eagles 2-23-26. Owl Lands on the Nest with Ellie; She Flushes it; Owl Strikes Harvey!

Video opens with Harvey arriving on the right side branch. After vocalizing with Ellie, he flies to the roost tree. Note his location. At 00:36, an owl flies R to L in the background, and it sounds like a strike on Harvey. He maintains his perch spot, and vocalizes with Ellie. Barred Owl vocals where heard in the distance about thirty minutes before the strike.

A couple hours+ later, Ellie is on the nest incubating, and a Barred Owl lands on the nest. Ellie immediately goes into wing slapping and defensive posture. The owl flew straight up, then out behind the nest. The owl made a couple more passes, noted with on screen captions. Ellie and Harvey vocalized for a bit before settling. Great job, Ellie!

Information on Ellie, provided by Farmer Derek: Ellie was banded ten years ago as a chick at Clinton Lake in Lawrence, Kansas. (We were told this in the spring of 2024.)
