Описание: Herbert Howells composed two sets of Psalm Preludes, the second set in 1938-9, so right at the start of the Second World War. Set 2, No 2 – as it is usually referred to, in the absence of an actual title – is a calm and reflective piece, composed in April 1939, based on Psalm 139, verse 11: "Yea, the darkness is no darkness with thee, but the night is as clear as the day: the darkness and the light to thee are both alike." Unlike the other two in this set, which begin and end in the same key, this prelude begins in A major but ends in the relative minor, F sharp, albeit with a long, major final chord to bring it to a pianissimo conclusion.
