I’ll never forget the time I got cast as a featured extra in the movie GOSNELL — a powerful, controversial project starring Dean Cain & Michael Beach. The film faced huge opposition and delays because it told the true story of Dr. Kermit Gosnell’s clinic in Pennsylvania.

What made it even more surreal? I was in what would become my second-to-last month of pregnancy while playing a pregnant woman during the raid scene. (My baby boy was a premie) Although I did not get to meet Michael Beach, I did meet and film with Dean Cain. He was kind, personable, and even made sure I got the medical attention and rest I needed on set. He told me that he was a single father at the time and genuinely seemed to care. I was still undecided on a middle name for my son. That was such an exciting moment in life and I liked the meaning of his name, so I gave my son his name — Dean — as his middle name.

But here’s the twist: years later, Dean Cain went viral for being on the wrong side of history, caught up in racist scandals and now proudly standing as an ICE agent. It’s wild to think someone I once admired — someone who impacted me during such a vulnerable time — has revealed such a disappointing side.

This story reminded me: don’t idolize celebrities. People can smile in your face and still stand for things that harm you behind your back.
