Transitioning was 'the biggest mistake of my life' | Ritchie Herron interview

Описание: After struggling with a variety of mental health issues – and spending decades suppressing his homosexuality – Ritchie Herron thought the solution to his problems was to become a woman.

However, he’s now suing the NHS after, as he describes, he was fast-tracked into making ‘the biggest mistake of his life’ and has been left infertile, incontinent and in ongoing pain.

Now 35, he's been telling Times Radio about his experience. This is his first broadcast interview.

The local NHS trust has sent us this statement: “We are unable to comment on an individual’s care and treatment.

"The Northern Regional Gender Dysphoria Service is a psychologically informed medical service for adults, providing assessment and treatment for gender dysphoria aimed at alleviating the distress caused by gender dysphoria.

"People supported by the Northern Region Gender Dysphoria Service receive their care from a multi-disciplinary team, including medical consultants, psychologists, specialist nurses, psychotherapists and communication therapists. Care plans are collaborative and personally tailored to meet each patient’s needs and goals, and treatment decisions are made following a thorough assessment in line with national recommendations.
