The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) announced Monday, September 15, that it will keep its benchmark interest rate unchanged at 11 percent. The rate has remained steady since May, after the central bank cut a cumulative 1,000 basis points from 22 percent in seven rounds since June 2024. In its statement, the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) said a detailed outlook will follow. A recent CFA Institute survey showed 92 percent of respondents expected no change, despite pressure from business groups for further easing to stimulate growth. At its July meeting, the MPC cited inflation risks tied to energy prices and geopolitical uncertainty, even as overall inflation showed signs of decline.
