Brigstow Presents...Hidden Histories and Performing the Archive

Описание: Come and join us for Brigstow Presents… Hidden Histories and Performing the Archive, a conversation that brings together two of our current co-produced projects for brief presentations on their progress. These interdisciplinary projects delve into the archives to reveal the hidden stories of individuals that lived over 100 years ago, how those stories enable us to talk about contemporary inequities and how they can be brought life through performance. From the story of Jenny Moore/Robert Coulthard who lived as an outsider both in terms of gender representation and the law, to imagined dialogues between Bristol-born Elizabeth Blackwell, the first woman to qualify as a doctor in the USA, and Rebecca Lee Crumpler, the first African American woman of colour to become a doctor.

The projects are:

Jenny: Posed as a Woman with Josie McLellan (History), Sarah Jones (History), Tom Marshman (Artist), Lois Bibbings (Law School), Jeanie Sinclair (feminist art historian) and Nic Aaron (Law School).

Becoming Elizabeth Blackwell with Mary Luckhurst (Arts), Julia Pascal (Pascal Theatre Company), Ulrike Maude (English), Tom Morris (Bristol Old Vic) and Havi Carel (Philosophy).
