4. SOUNDBITE (English) Rodney Dixon, KC Lawyer representing Tunisian detainees:
“Persons have been detained unlawfully, arbitrarily mistreated, in some cases tortured. They don't know what the charges are against them. The evidence hasn't been presented and there's no end in sight as to how long they will remain detained. Secondly, there has been a wave of brutal repression against Black Tunisians and migrants in Tunisia.”

6. SOUNDBITE (English) Kaouther Ferjani, daughter of imprisoned Tunisian MP Said Ferjani:
“The hunger strikes are quite scary for us as families because we've seen that our parents have seen they have no other choice but to try and seek attention both internally and externally, telling the rest of the world, 'Hey, what are you doing?'. I mean, even my dad, he sent us a message quite early on calling for the rest of the world that believe in the right and democracy in human rights and those ideals to join them, and so..."

8. SOUNDBITE (English) Yusra Ghannouchi, daughter of imprisoned Tunisian opposition leader Rached Ghannouchi:
”It's clear there is no justice. In some of these cases political prisoners have been in detention for eight months without being interrogated. No one knows when the trial will be. Recently, lawyers themselves, lawyers representing the political prisoners have had investigations opened against them. So in such a situation, there is no hope of attaining justice. We are, however, continuing with the judicial cases inside Tunisia.”

STORYLINE:
Family members of jailed lawyers and politicians in Tunisia want the International Criminal Court to investigate claims of political persecution and human rights violations as an increasing number of President Kais Saied’s opponents are arrested and several in prison stage hunger strikes.
Yusra Ghannouchi, the daughter of jailed opposition leader Rached Ghannouchi, joined other jailed dissidents’ sons and daughters in The Hague on Thursday to announce plans to pursue action at the court.
Members of the same group made a similar case to the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights earlier this year.
In a news release on Monday, they noted the increasing number of judges, politicians, journalists and prominent opposition voices being arrested and alleged a campaign of persecution against Black migrants throughout Tunisia.
