その森は、地図上ではまだ白かった。

再開発が進むミアレ郊外。
都市の拡張に合わせて、新しいワイルドエリアを設定する計画が動いている。

私はその事前調査を任された巡回員だった。
ドローンは奥で通信を失い、
センサーは理由もなく数値を落とす。

危険というより、拒まれている――

そんな感覚だけが、報告書に残っていた。

だから私は、歩いて入った。

境界線を越えた瞬間、空気が変わる。
街の音は薄れ、代わりに足元の葉と、遠くの気配が濃くなる。

その時だった。
黒い影が、木々の間を横切った。
速い。でも、逃げない。

レパルダス。

目が合う。
金色の瞳は警戒していたが、敵意はない。
私は手を止め、ボールにも触れなかった。

巡回員としては、正しい対応じゃない。
でも、この森に対しては――

それが唯一の正解だと分かった。

影は振り返り、
ゆっくりと歩き出した。
私は、ついて行った。

森の奥は、不思議なほど静かだった。
ポケモンの気配はあるのに、争いがない。
人の痕跡もあるのに、侵食はされていない。

レパルダスは少し前を歩く。
振り返らない。
でも、距離は保たれている。

案内されている――
そう思った。

月明かりの差す開けた場所で、影は止まった。

私はそこに立ち、周囲を見渡す。

ここなら、人は入れる。
でも、線を引きすぎたら壊れる。

管理できる場所。
けれど、支配してはいけない場所。
それが、この森の答えだった。

「……シャド」

名前を呼ぶと、
レパルダスの尻尾が、ほんの一度だけ揺れた。

懐いたわけじゃない。
仲間になったわけでもない。
ただ、
同じ判断をしただけ。

調査は、成功とも失敗とも言えなかった。
私は報告書にこう書いた。

本区域はワイルドエリアとしての拡張が可能。
ただし、人とポケモンが同じ速度で歩くことを条件とする。


街へ戻る道すがら、
シャドはいつの間にか
少しだけ、距離を詰めて歩くようになった。

New Wild Area Survey Report
The forest was still blank on the map.
On the outskirts of Miare, redevelopment was progressing.
As the city expanded, plans were underway to establish a new Wild Area.
I was the patroller assigned to the preliminary survey.
Drones lost signal deep inside,
and sensors dropped readings for no apparent reason.
It wasn’t danger—it felt like the forest was rejecting me.
That was the only impression left in the report.
So I walked in.
The moment I crossed the boundary, the air changed.
The sounds of the city faded, replaced by the rustle of leaves underfoot and the distant presence of something alive.
Then it happened.
A black shadow darted between the trees.
Fast. Yet it didn’t run away.
A Liepard.
Our eyes met.
Its golden gaze was wary, but not hostile.
I stopped moving, not even reaching for my Poké Balls.
As a patroller, this was the correct protocol.
But in this forest—
I knew it was the only right choice.
The shadow glanced back,
and began walking slowly.
I followed.
The deeper part of the forest was strangely silent.
There were signs of Pokémon, yet no conflict.
Signs of humans, yet no encroachment.
The Liepard walked slightly ahead.
It never looked back.
Yet it maintained a distance.
I realized—I was being guided.
In a clearing bathed in moonlight, the shadow stopped.
I stood there, looking around.
Humans could enter here.
But if the lines were drawn too strictly, it would be destroyed.
A place that can be managed.
But a place that must not be controlled.
That was the answer this forest gave.
“…Shado.”
When I spoke its name,
the Liepard’s tail flicked just once.
It wasn’t affection.
It wasn’t companionship.
We had simply made the same decision.
The survey could be called neither a success nor a failure.
I wrote in the report:
This area can be expanded as a Wild Area, provided humans and Pokémon move at the same pace.
On the way back to the city,
Shado had somehow
shortened the distance between us, just a little.

Fast, but never running from me
Golden eyes, a careful stare

I kept my hands where they could see
Didn’t reach for what I carry
As a ranger, that’s a flaw
But here, it felt like law

You looked back once, then walked ahead
Didn’t ask me to follow
But I did

I didn’t catch you
I didn’t make you stay
But you listened
When I said, “Not that way”
No chains, no crown, no claim
Just distance shifting shape
We don’t control
We share the boundary

Different needs
I won’t lead
You won’t hide

I won’t name you mine

Between the wild and the lines
