The edible mushroom Sparassis crispa (in Norwegian blomkålsopp) is quite unique, but does pop up every now and again. I have never seen it in Norway, this I found on an old natural castle ("forneborg") in the middle of Sweden, a place with lots of old pine trees and very few people.
The Sparassis is a parasite, so it is not good for any trees.
I washed it in clean water, and sliced it. Then I fried it in butter, garlic, salt and pepper and had some good bread with it. The rest of this almost 800 gram mushroom I put in the freazer, not doing anything with them, but I placed 3 slices in three different bags so I can just have one portion when needed.
