Protesters gather at judge's home following Tracie Hunter's sentencing

Описание: GREEN TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKRC) - Nearly two dozen protestors picketed outside of Hamilton County Common Pleas Court Judge Patrick Dinkelacker’s Green Township home on Monday evening. The protest came just hours after former judge Tracie Hunter was hauled out of court to serve her six-month jail center at the Hamilton County Justice Center.

Protestors prayed and chanted for an hour as neighbors looked on and police monitored the situation. State Sen. Cecil Thomas, a Democrat, was at the protest and said Hunter’s six-month sentence is unjust.

"To see her literally drug was unconscionable,” said Thomas. “Someone who weighs a little over 100 pounds, to be treated like that."

Hunter was hauled out of court Monday morning after years of appeals and delays. The crowd outside of Dinkelacker’s house chanted, “If she was white, she wouldn’t be locked up.”

Bishop Bobby Hilton, a friend of Hunter's, says city businesses should also expect an economic boycott. It comes during the same week hundreds of African Americans are expected to flock to Cincinnati for Jazz Fest.

"This should of been a happy week. People are going to come and celebrate a great music fest. It should have been a joyful and happy week. Now, it's one of the worst weeks,” said Hilton.

Despite the protests, there is hope for Hunter. Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters and Mayor John Cranley have spoken to Gov. Mike DeWine, asking him to commute Hunter's sentence, but both Hilton and Thomas aren't buying it.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Deters, that is totally ridiculous. Judge Hunter is not going to accept that kind of garbage,” said Thomas.

A spokesman for the governor’s office confirms the governor has spoken to Deters about the possibility of commuting the sentence but also said the governor’s office had not received an application just yet.

Local 12 also spoke with Judge Dinkelacker by phone as the protest was happening Monday evening. Dinkelacker said he was not happy with the situation and the protestors were upsetting his elderly neighbors who were scared. He also said he was surprised ministers were involved in the protest. However, Hunter is also a minister.
