Kelly Brownell is the World Food Policy Center's Director at the Sanford School of Public Policy at Duke University, where he is also Robert L. Flowers Professor of Public Policy, Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience. He served as Dean of the Sanford School of Public Policy at Duke from 2013-2018. In 2006 Time magazine listed Brownell among “The World’s 100 Most Influential People” in its special Time 100 issue featuring those “.. whose power, talent or moral example is transforming the world.” Brownell has advised the White House, members of congress, governors, world health and nutrition organizations, and media leaders on issues of #nutrition, obesity and #publicpolicy. He was cited as a “moral entrepreneur” with special influence on public discourse in a history of the obesity field and was cited by Time magazine as a leading “warrior” in the area of nutrition and public policy.

The World Food Policy Center is a research, education, and convening organization within Duke University’s Sanford School of Public Policy. Their mission is to advance connected and inclusive food system policy and practice in support of equity and resilience of local/national/global food systems. Through their work, the center explores human perspectives at each stage of problem analysis, solution design, and testing. The center strives to uncover historical drivers of inequality and to bridge disconnected areas of food-related policy and practice intentionally. And, they seek to enhance community health and wellbeing by learning from and connecting with the people most affected by #food system challenges.
