দুপুরে গাইবান্ধার পলাশবাড়িতে সাংবাদিকদের সাথে আলাপকালে একথা বলেন তিনি। এসময় এরশাদ আরো বলেন, জাতীয় পার্টির নেতারা মন্ত্রিসভা থেকে বেরিয়ে এসে বিরোধী দলের ভূমিকায় থাকতে চায়।

তিনি বলেন, ‘আমরা ৩০০ আসনে নির্বাচন করতে প্রস্তুত আছি। দেশের বর্তমান যে পরিস্থিতি, সরকারের যে বর্তমান অবস্থা, তাতে আমরা খুব আশাবাদী যে, ৩০০ আসনে নির্বাচন করেই আমরা জয়লাভ করতে পারবো। সরকার গঠন করতে পারবো।’

তিনি আরও বলেন, ‘মানুষ এক সরকারকে বেশিদিন দেখতে চায়না। সেজন্য যে সংকট সৃষ্টি হয়েছে, আমরা যদি একাই নির্বাচন করি, ক্ষমতায় যাওয়ার সুযোগ আল্লাহ সৃষ্টি করে দিয়েছে।’

মন্ত্রীসভা থেকে দলীয় নেতাদের পদত্যাগের প্রসঙ্গ তিনি বলেন, ‘আমার স্ত্রী সংসদে বলেছেন, তার ধারাকাহিকতায় বলেছি, আমরা পদত্যাগ করতে সচেষ্ট আছি। আশা করি এটা তাড়াতাড়ি হয়ে যাবে।’

তিনি আরও বলেন, ‘সরকার আমাদের ছেড়ে দেয়া উচিৎ। তবে উনি এটা সংসদে না বললেও পারতেন। এটা নিয়েও অনেক সমালোচনা হয়েছে। এটার প্রয়োজন ছিলো না। এটা যখন বলেই ফেলেছেন, তখন বলতে চাই, আমরা সরকার থেকে বেরিয়ে আসতে চাই, আশা করি শিগগিরই সেটা পারবো।’
