Meet the 2025 ForumCiv Artivism Fellows — 20 emerging artivists from Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania using creativity to respond to urgent civic issues and imagine more just futures.
Selected through a competitive multi-stage process from more than 600 applicants, this first-ever joint East Africa cohort took part in an intensive five-month fellowship from August to December 2025.
Through a hybrid experience that included an in-person residency, virtual learning, mentorship, a regional convening, and a public showcase, fellows were supported to grow politically grounded, care-centered creative practices.
Using film, animation, music, poetry, textile installation, and public performance, the fellows turned art into action—sharing powerful stories that reflect the role of artivism in shaping East Africa’s civic future.
