The biggest change in attacking since the patch is that the AI intelligence has gone down. They will no longer get in passing lanes as well as before and intercept the ball. They will also not try to cut an attacker off or get in front of a shot like before. Before the patch defenders would jump in front of shots at the last minute to deflect them, as well as try to get in front of attackers and cut them off. This happens far less frequently now post-patch. They will rather just try to stay in-between the attacker and the goal.

This change requires you to manually defend a lot more often in order to defend effectively in Fifa 16 post-patch. You have to get in front of the attacker and cut them off and protect the middle of the pitch. You have to move your defenders in front of the shot so they can deflect it. You can no longer count of your computer AI controlled players to do it for you. Make sure to always be paying attention to your CBs and be prepared to switch over to him to cut off an attacker or get in the shooting lane.

In order to take advantage of this change make sure to do small movements inside the penalty area. You do not even have to use skill moves, although precision dribble and fake shot can help. Make these small movements and slowly move closer to goal until you have a shot. Try to see if they are manually controlling their defenders or not. Don’t be afraid to shoot anymore one you see an angle that you like. The likelihood of them jumping in front of the shot is low. So take long shots and don’t be afraid because the penalty area is clogged up.

With the latest patch ping-pong passing has improved, as well. What this means is small and quick passes. It is best to do these through the middle of the pitch. Do quick give and go passes and get the ball up the pitch. Use through balls or lobbed through balls to catch your attacker in stride. Make sure they are short and precise passes though and always have variety to your attack. Don’t focus on just attacking through the middle or wings, change it up.
