A day after kicking off his Conservative campaign for Canada's upcoming federal election, leader Pierre Poilievre vowed to deliver a 15 per cent cut on income taxes nationwide if elected prime minister.
Poilievre said his party would achieve this by “reducing the lowest [tax] bracket from 15 to 12.75.” He said the 2.25 per cent reduction would work out to a 15 per cent reduction “in the overall tax bill of everyone [in the lowest tax bracket] earning up to $57,000,” which he said would result in “every single Canadian who pays income tax” paying less.
Poilievre has promised to reverse nearly all of Trudeau’s policies, from the carbon pricing on industrial emitters to immigration and taxation. He also promised to shrink the public service.
Canada’s 45th federal election, which formally kicked off Sunday afternoon, will see a new prime minister elected and a new cabinet come to power – whatever the outcome.
