S Traits
Deep Zone Coverage (DZC) | A combination of the player's range and route recognition from a high zone assignment.
Intermediate Zone Coverage (ZCV) | Safeties ability in hook, buzz, and curl flat assignments. Relies less on speed and gambling ability and more on understanding short & intermediate route combinations and carrying receivers into the 2nd level of defense while staying conscient of underneath threats.
Man / Match Coverage (MCV) | Ability To Stick in a Receivers Hip Pocket From Start To Finish In Man Coverage or Zone-Match
Route Squeeze (RSQ) | Ability to react quickly at a route's breaking point once a receiver has begun separating, to latch onto the route to reduce separation, and stay physical through the route.
Ball Skills (BLS) | Combination Of Player's Hands in addition to his instincts to find and attack the ball after it is released
Run Defense (RUN) | Ability To Diagnose A Play As Run (Not Pass), Beat Blocks, & Take Good Pursuit Angles.
Tackling (TKL) | Self Explanatory
S Scheme Fits
Free Safety (FS) | A true single high, "Center Fielder" type with range, ball skills, burst and an understanding of route concepts. Is also the last line of defense and needs to know how take calculated risks.
Hybrid | A safety built for the "Split Safety" Defense who has enough range to run a two high shell, the flexibility to rotate up or down in Cover 3, and the zone-match fluidity to pick up receivers from a Quarters assignment. Range, Zone Coverage, and Run Defense still matter for Hybrid Safeties, but the emphasis in this architype is on speed, change of direction, and the ability to squeeze deeper routes at their breaking point down the field.
Strong Safety (SS) | A traditional Strong Safety who should spend the majority of his snaps within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage. These players are capable of taking on Tight Ends in the run game and are good tacklers. Short area burst and ability to cover in the short to intermediate game in both man and zone are prioritized over range and speed.
Slot Cornerback (SCB) * | Added flexibility to play the Slot Architype listed in the Cornerbacks tab.
Bandit* | Incredibly versatile box safety role. Typically closer in size to a linebacker, Bandit safeties must be ready to play weakside linebacker in a "Base" 4-3 or "Big Nickel", they may play slot corner, traditional strong safety, inside the tackles as a nickel linebacker on obvious passing downs in Dime formations, or even to rotate high as a Free Safety on occasion. Bandits thrive in tackling and taking on blockers relative to other safeties, and excel in sideline to sideline speed and coverage ability relative to most linebackers.
*Not included in a player's designation as "any" Scheme Fit.
