Every week, Bvumbwe Police Station records at least three to five cases of child marriage, according to the Community Policing Coordinator—a reminder of the challenges vulnerable girls face.
In response, CCDO, with support from Mundo Cooperante, launched the ‘The Right to be a Girl’ project in 2025, reaching six schools in Thyolo district: Chisawani, Ligowe, Chimwabvi, Mphedzu, Nyambalo Primary and Chiriza Community Secondary School.
Through this initiative, girls receive essential support—exercise books, uniforms, sanitary materials and school fees—while teachers, police, parents and community leaders join forces to protect their education and rights.
By working together, the community is helping ensure that every girl can stay in school and embrace her right to simply be a girl.
