Muslims come from around the world to visit the Ka’bah (the black cube) in Makkah, the holiest place in Islam. They walk around the Ka’bah, an act known as ‘Tawaf’ or circumambulation. Moving together in one direction in a circular fashion symbolises the belief in and worship of the one true God, Allah.

A circle has a centre. The circular manner in which Muslims move around it signifies unity in their hearts that there is only one Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) truly worthy of worship. We believe this act has been performed by many prophets of the past, including Prophet Adam, Ebrahim (Abraham), Musa (Moses) and Muhammad, peace be upon them all.

Muslims do not pray to the Ka’bah. It functions merely as a unifying direction point for the 2billion Muslims around the world to face towards five times a day.
