In the programs you've written so far, each line in a cell was executed from top to bottom in order. However, you often need your programs to make decisions or repeat tasks. These patterns are called control flow. Control flow is the order in which individual lines of code are executed or run. It determines the path your computer takes to the code. There are four main types of control flow. Sequential, conditional, repetitive, and function calls. You'll learn more about function calls at a later point, so this lesson focuses on the first three for now. You've already seen sequential control flow in the code you've created so far. It's the default way code runs. Unless you introduce some of the control structures you'll learn about in this lesson, your lines of code will execute in order.
