"When I started this project I had this bigger goal of, you know, travelling around the world and started sustainable crafts businesses in different countries, and getting them to a point where they could function without me and without a Western, without government money, without charity money or this. And train people how to run businesses, and train people how to come up with a product and maintain quality."

19. SOUNDBITE (English) Kevin McCarthy, founder and designer of Rara Bags:
"This is the hardest thing to find. When we were producing less, you know, between 40 and 100 pieces a month we could have this plastic mesh as completely recycled pieces, always recycled collected from people who shopped at local grocery stores, because they use this to pack fruits and vegetables. Now that we're getting bigger orders from the States we have had to buy some of it new, which is unfortunate but at the same time, you know about 75% of the product is still recycled and in order to keep people working we do go ahead and buy a box every so often."

"I don't want people to buy this product or any of the products that I create based solely on charity. I want them to buy it because they like the product, because they are good products and it's a pretty bag, one they want to carry. So I want the producer, also, to make something that is valuable, not just something that is going to give them 5 bucks (USD)."
