The worst thing about your timeshare is that it is not a tangible physical asset. You cannot touch it. It is basically open air. This simple fact has a dramatic effect on your ability to get out of it.

The reason trying to sell your timeshare almost never works is because it is not at all like your home. A home will sell eventually at the right price and you can pay off much of what you owe. A timeshare, in most cases, cannot even be given away. Nobody wants to pay you anything for a non-tangible asset (actually it is not an asset but a money pit of nothing) that they have to pay a yearly fee averaging $1000 to use.

There are two scenarios to consider if you want to get out of your timeshare.

1. You have it paid off. In which case a transfer is likely going to be the quickest safest way out. It does cost money but it will remove your name from the deed in the long run.

2. You owe money. This is where most owners will use an attorney. This, of course, is a good option provided the attorney you use is competent. That, of course, is not something that all legal counsel can claim if they are being honest. And typically they charge a lot of money.
