This episode dives deep into the elusive and beautiful world of the Chinese Element of Water — and we’re not just talking about characters who use water, oh no. To qualify for this list, you’ve got to be made of water… or at the very least, ice. ❄️💧
(Yes, we’re counting ice. Don’t fight me. Ice is just water that’s been hitting the gym.)
In Chinese element theory, Water types are known for their sensitivity, intelligence, grace, resourcefulness, and intense emotional depth. They’re listeners, lovers, and strategists. But don’t let their calm nature fool you — still waters run deep... and deadly. Just ask my water-element girlfriend Desi. 😘
Now, this isn’t an easy element to find in plastic form. No aquatic animals, no fishy mutants, and no characters that just "have water powers." These figures had to embody water.
We open with a surprisingly cool little piece: the Ice Spider from Schleich’s Eldrador line. Technically more a figurine than an action figure, but hey — unique sculpt, freaky design, and a perfect background troop for any icy army. These Eldrador creatures are criminally underrated for fantasy displays.
Next up is a no-brainer: Iceman (Retro Marvel Legends) from Hasbro. One of the OG water/ice-based heroes, and while his powers don’t always get the spotlight they deserve, this figure has a clean translucent sculpt and plenty of retro charm. Coolness level: Omega.
Then we take a step back in time with ToyBiz’s Mutant Armor Iceman — yep, the one from the 90s. I had no idea this was the Age of Apocalypse version when I first got him. I used to call him Super Saiyan Iceman, and honestly… still kinda do. He’s got that fierce energy and insane silhouette that’s both nostalgic and ridiculous in the best way.
And finally, we finish with an import: Shiva from Final Fantasy VIII (ArtFX Guardian Force). An absolutely stunning figure visually — icy skin, elegant pose, ethereal hair. But wow… what a pain to keep intact. Like many Japanese imports, she’s a shelf princess: breathtaking to behold, but touch her the wrong way and she disassembles faster than your patience. Still, she’s a powerful water elemental in the Final Fantasy universe, and one I couldn’t leave off this list.
Water may not explode like fire or thunder like earth — but it slips past armor, freezes blood, and waits patiently to drown entire empires. And when it’s part of your collection? It looks damn cool doing it.
