Merlin in flight - Birds of Norway

Описание: Merlin (Falco columbarius; Dvergfalk) in flight and landing. I was standing in the middle of an upland bog when the Merlin came hurtling across the sky, making several passes before landing. To track the flight of this bird, I detached the camera from the tripod and made the shot handheld. Although there are no crisp closeups, the clip shows the characteristic flight pattern and changing silhouette of Merlin. The twisting flight with extremely fast wingbeats separated by long glides distinguish Merlin from other falcons (Hobby, Red-footed, Peregrine). When gliding, note the broad base of the wing, the pointed wingtips, and long tail. This early video from preHD days is my only shot of the species.
