There is no evidence for Hegel's claim to the permanent existence of a tension that has to be resolve."

A core tenet of Marxism is that the means of production are the central driving force of history. The tools and techniques a society uses in its productive processes will determine its superstructure. Not only that, but they shape the hearts and souls of the men that make up society – even the ideas in their heads are shaped according to their relationship to the means of production! Ludwig von Mises delineates a number of logical objections to this thesis in his book Theory and History (1957). For example: where do the means of production of man come from if not from the ideas inside our heads? Antony pits “Rocky Balboa vs. Apollo Creed” as Marx and Mises go head-to-head (or is it head to hammer and sickle?) In light of contemporary trends in big tech he takes a second (more charitable) look at Marx’ theory of history, unpacking his fascinating notion that machines blindly lead society, and elaborate on the objections laid forth by von Mises.
