A sacred song came to me when I first spotted Stone Mountain on my trip to Atlanta, Georgia to visit family. I felt called to hike up the mountain and say a prayer and play a sacred song to bring in healing energies to our turbulent times. Stone Mountain was once a sacred place for the Ku Klux Klan, and is currently home to one of the largest Lost Cause of the Confederacy / Jim Crow-era Confederate monuments carved into the side of the mountain.
I know the mountain has a sacred meaning to the Cherokee, Creek, and other indigenous peoples. A rock wall ringed the summit area was observed when the white man first came to the area. I felt the strength and power of this mountain and offered this medicine song for the people and the mountain.
