Above, the system’s sibling planet showed its penumbra in the night sky with silent kindness.

On an elevated organic platform overlooking the luminous city, the chief auditor stood with his helmet resting against his hip. The polished surface reflected the emerald glow of bioluminescent forests below. Beside him, the android’s form caught the light differently — metallic contours precise and deliberate, translucent panels along her neck and hands revealing steady pulses of internal circuitry.

She studied the colony’s skyline, processing atmospheric data and growth metrics in silence.

“You built something extraordinary here,” he said.

“We cultivated it,” she replied. “The architecture adapts to environmental shifts in real time. Structural roots extend three kilometers beneath the surface. Nothing here is static.”

Below them, living bridges adjusted their curvature as night winds shifted. Floating seed-like habitats repositioned to optimise energy intake from orbital reflectors. This colony was the most ambitious experiment by the Mercurial Interstellar Longtermism Organisation (MILO) as of yet.

Standing above the breathing city, he understood: this was no longer about survival of mankind — it was about integration.
