The Bail Amendment Bill 2025 dominated debate during a parliamentary sitting week in March.
Members of parliament spoke at length about the contents of the legislation which amends the Bail Act 1977 and Summary Offences Act 1966 to improve community safety by strengthening bail laws for serious high-harm alleged offending and repeat offending while on bail, and makes consequential amendments to other Acts.
This video shows some of the contributions made by Members and the process the bill went through in both the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council as it was passed through the parliament with majority support of MPs.
