Characters :
Carmen – a poor servant who works at a French mistress house for 500 francs a month. She is exploited by her mistress at work. Despite her son is sick she has to attend her workplace far away from her village. She is a pathetic lady who loses all her children for being unable to feed them properly and provide treatment when they were sick.
Hector: Carmen’s sick son
Carmen’s mistress: a French woman who is indifferent to Carmen’s family problem. She refuses to give her any money in advance. Consequently Carmen sacrifices her last son too.
Francoise- daughter of Carmen’s mistress who is difficult to feed
Ferdinand:- a watchman at Carmen’s mistress house who shares similar opinion regarding the upper class people as indifferent to their servants’ problems and hardships
Kitonga Flavien – a supposedly rich man who offered to marry Carmen. Had she married with him, Carmen would have lived a happy life.
