Akron school board swears in 3 new members as district looks to stabilize leadership

Описание: Akron Public Schools is ushering in new leadership with the swearing-in of four members to the Board of Education, a move district leaders hope will bring stability after a turbulent year at the top.

The ceremony was held Monday evening at Garfield Community Learning Center, where three newly elected members and one returning board member officially took the oath of office.

The swearing-in comes after a year of major leadership change for the district. In 2025, then-Superintendent Dr. Michael Robinson abruptly resigned following an investigation that found he fostered a hostile work environment. The school board later appointed longtime Akron Public Schools educator Mary Outley as superintendent without conducting a formal search.

Newly elected board members Nathan Jarosz, Phil Montgomery and Karmaya Kelly now join the board, along with Rev. Gregory Harrison, who was appointed in 2024 and won one of four open seats in the November election. They will serve alongside Barbara Sykes, Summer Hall and Dr. Rene Molenaur, completing the seven-member board.
