On July 13, 2024, Bloomington Police Officer Shepard stopped a motorist for speeding. The vehicle was being driven by a 21-year-old woman. When she was asked for her driver's license, she immediately notified Officer Shepard that it had recently been confiscated because of a DUI arrest that occurred about one month prior. Even though she denied consuming alcohol, Officer Shepard claimed he could smell alcohol coming from inside of the vehicle. The woman was asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests. At the conclusion of the tests, she was asked to submit to a portable breath test, but she refused. She was placed under arrest for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and was transported to the local hospital for a blood draw. The results of the laboratory analysis were not revealed.
