There was no way we were visiting Morocco and NOT seeing the Sahara’s massive dunes. It is a loooong drive (about 9 hours straight) from Marrakech, but I guarantee you it’ll be worth it.
We ultimately decided on a private 3-day Marrakech to Merzouga tour package with Eco Desert Morocco. On Day 1, we opted to drive straight to the Sahara instead of making stops in Todra Gorge, Dades Gorge, etc., so the total drive time was about 9 hours.
