Hobart vertical cutter mixers are used for large food production in kitchens around the world. They are very robust, expensive and will probably run indefinitely just as long as they are cleaned and maintained regularly.
However, sometimes operators get lazy and leave the cutting or mixing attachments on the motor shaft and fail to clean them after each use. As a result the cutter/mixer attachments become permanently cemented to the motor shaft due to fine food particles getting down inside and acting like a glue. Unfortunately, it's virtually impossible to remove the attachments without damaging or destroy them altogether once they are in this condition.
These attachments are very expensive and can cost up to $1,000 or more just to replace a single one.
This video demonstrates how to safely and effectively remove the attachments from the motor shaft without damaging the vertical cutter mixer and it's cutter mixer attachments using a simple Pitman puller with a 3 1/4" spread. These pullers can be found on Amazon for around $75.
The manufacture also recommends using a food grade lubricant grease on the motor shaft prior to adding the cutter or mixer attachment to ease removal, though this recommendation is not always followed.
