With its underpasses, pedestrian footbridges and striking brutalist architecture, Cumbernauld has a claim to being the most modern town in Britain, but even in this shining monument to modernity, an ancient form of levy - the feu - keeps homeowners shackled to the past.
Nationwide's Jack Pizzey investigates this antiquated, feudal tax, and speaks to some of the 'vassals' who are required to pay it.
