Tamil Nadu COVID-19 pulse survey claims 53% 'loss of livelihood in households

Atleast one member had lost livelihood in 53% of surveyed families in the month between the months of March and May.
In rural areas 56% families observed loss of livelihood while it was 50% in Urban region.
'Tamil Nadu COVID19 Pulse Survey' was conducted by Madras Institute of Development Studies after being commissioned by Tamil Nadu government.
10,031 households was the sample size across the State where the survey was done over the phone and the purpose was to provide accurate data for efficient policy design.
83.4% of those who lost their jobs were causal laborers and 13.3% were of the salaried class in private sector.
67% of the households had experienced loss of income.

State's average mean income was 11,472 rupees in rural and 17 717 rupees in urban areas for the month of February which fell to 6,522 rupees in rural area and 11,337 rupees in urban areas for the month of May.
