For many years, Indian farmers depended on China for nearly 95% of special fertilizers called water-soluble fertilizers. These fertilizers help plants absorb nutrients better, ensuring healthy crops. But this heavy dependence meant that if supplies from China were delayed, Indian farmers suffered.
After seven years of research, Indian scientists have developed their own water-soluble fertilizer technology using local raw materials. Supported by the Ministry of Mines, this eco-friendly and efficient method marks a big step toward self-reliance.
What is Water-Soluble Fertilizer?
It’s a fertilizer that dissolves quickly in water, allowing plants to take in nutrients faster. Think of it as giving plants nutrient-rich water, helping them grow strong and healthy.

Steady Supply: Farmers won’t have to wait for imports.
Save Money: Less import spending means more funds for other needs.
Boost Local Economy: Supports Indian industries and creates jobs.
Exports: India can share this technology with the world.

Meanwhile, challenges also came from the U.S., which imposed a 50% tariff on Indian exports like garments and gems. But instead of slowing down, India boosted its domestic trade. In August 2025, manufacturing grew at the fastest pace in 17.5 years, with factories upgrading and creating more jobs.
This achievement shows how innovation and resilience are driving India forward — building self-reliance in agriculture and strengthening the economy at the same time.
