In this deeply reflective Ramadan reminder, the Shaykh explains why Ramadan is not only a month of fasting, but a month of sabr, patient restraint, and inner discipline. He highlights narrations often mentioned by scholars about fasting and sabr, then moves to a crucial insight: sabr by itself can feel austere and heavy, because it is rooted in abstention and self denial. The modern world struggles to understand this, because it measures happiness through indulgence, not restraint.

He then introduces the higher and sweeter station that sabr leads into: ridha, contentment with Allah’s decree. Ridha is not passive resignation. It is a calm acceptance rooted in love, where the believer sees even hardship as coming from the Divine Beloved. The Shaykh connects this to Qur’anic meanings of Allah being pleased with His servants and them being pleased with Him, and how this divine pleasure is greater than every reward described in Paradise.

Using powerful stories from the early saints, he illustrates the reality of ridha: people enduring intense affliction while remaining inwardly close to Allah, not wanting anything to distract them from that intimacy. He then brings the message into the modern world, reflecting on the pandemic, economic hardship, illness, and loss. His conclusion is a call to make Ramadan a month of inward states, not mere external rules, and to seek a community that is not consumed by constant anxiety but anchored in trust, sabr, and ridha.
