It’s been a week since the final episode of season 1 of Heated Rivalry, and to say that I’m obsessed with this show would be a massive understatement. From the very first episode, I knew I was going to make an edit of Shane and Ilya. I haven’t felt this way about a show in years- maybe ever, and sometimes the only way I can get over a life-consuming obsession like this is by editing.

I had a couple of song options in mind, but when Daylight came up, it immediately felt right. It’s one of my favorite Taylor songs ever, and pairing one of my favorite songs with one of my favorite shows just felt right. Daylight represents Shane and Ilya’s story on so many levels. The core theme of stepping into the light and letting go of the dark past feel exactly like watching the show - like a deep sigh of relief.

That cottage scene where Shane closes the curtains and Ilya stops him, opening them again, works as such a perfect metaphor for their relationship: choosing to stop hiding. It makes this song feel like it was made for their story.

I really tried to do this show justice and to sum up their story in a way that feels true to who they are.

The actors are incredible, and so is the entire crew and creative team. Somehow, I keep discovering new details that only make me fall more in love with the show.
