You’ve heard about the SAG-AFTRA strike in Hollywood in 2023. But what does that mean?
The Screen Actors Guild & the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists is a union comprising of approximately 160,000 actors and other industry professionals, who have jointly gone on strike in response to unsuccessful negotiations regarding a new contract with major studios and streaming platforms.
The primary agenda of this movement is to secure better compensation and working conditions for all professionals, as well as assurance of protection against Artificial Intelligence (AI), especially for actors and writers.
Here are my thoughts of the movement and what we can learn from it.
