NY bassist Shahzad Ismaily from Marc Ribot’s band Ceramic Dog contacted me to ask if he could try out The Bace while on tour in Europe. I rushed down to the venue (Lantaren Venster) in Rotterdam, arrived half a minute before they went onstage, was received with a hug and a request to prepare the Bace so the stage hand could put it onstage in between tunes. So without having tried or sound-checked the instrument, he picked it up in the middle of the set and played it! After the gig and signing session, Shahzad tried it out some more and we had a great chat. A lovely creative gentleman!
