Markfed takes note of tardy wheat lifting

Описание: Markfed Managing Director (MD) Rahul Tiwari has taken a serious note of the slow lifting of wheat from the mandis in the district. He has instructed the officials concerned to expedite the process.
Addressing mediapersons here on Thursday, he informed that despite delay in lifting of wheat in the district, it has reached the 40 per cent mark and the district administration has assured that 90 per cent of procured wheat will be lifted within a week.
The wheat lifting process is low due to the delay in the finalisation of transport contractors and pendency of some litigations in the district, he said. He also held discussions with the officials of procurement agencies, district police, civil administration and other stakeholders, such as farmers, arhatiyas and transporters.
“Till date, 118.61 lakh metric tonnes of wheat have been procured in the state, which is approximately 99 per cent of the expected harvest for this wheat season. Out of this, approximately 80 lakh metric tonnes of wheat have already been lifted and approximately 38 lakh metric tonnes remain unlifted,” he said. He informed that 91 percent of the total payments due to the farmers and arhatiyas till date have been made.
The MD said he has visited Naushehra Pannuan, Chabal and Tarn Taran mandis of the district and the process of procurement has been going on smoothly. He also held discussions with arhatiyas, who raised some local level issues regarding shortage of labour at unloading points for which he asked the administration to resolve the issue. He added that he would visit the district on May 9 and expect the lifting of the stock to end by then.
