Breakthrough composition that made Scott Joplin famous and furthered the popularity of the new genre ragtime. Joplin would go on to compose more than 40 ragtime-related compositions and became known as the King of Ragtime.

Published by John Stark in Sedalia, Missouri in 1899. Both Stark and Joplin would make their way to the bigger city St. Louis, Missouri soon afterwards and a number of Joplin rags were published by Stark.
