A walk around the remains of the Dowlais Ivor works
The Dowlais Ivor Works (or Ifor Works), built in 1839, were named after Ivor Bertie Guest (1835–1914). He was the eldest son of Sir John Josiah Guest, a key industrialist who managed the Dowlais Ironworks, and Lady Charlotte Guest. Ivor Bertie Guest later became the first Baron Wimborne.
Background: The works were established as a maintenance area with blast furnaces, forges, and foundries.
Significance: It was named to honor the heir of the massive Dowlais iron empire.
Evolution: The works continued to operate as a foundry and engineering site long after the main Dowlais iron production declined.
