EULOGY
BIRTH:-
The late Hon. Gedion Saul Kavuu was born in 1958 in Kisooni village, Mung'ala sub-location, Mumbuni location, Machakos Sub-county in Machakos County formerly (Iveti). He was the seventh born child to the late Kavuu Kithuka and Grace Kaluki Kavuu. He was brother to the late Livington Kiilu, the late Mbula, the late Lydia Kiloko Nguta, Benard Mutuku, late Aidah Nthenya, Rose Mutindi Kimuyu and Beatrice Mutheu Nyanya. He was cousin to Mutie, Munyao, Ngila, Kithuka, Nzioka, Josephine Ndinda, David Mbiti, Philip, Jackline Mbula, Nzilani, Mbatha,
Kalungu Makau, the late Stanley Makau and Fredrick Makau among others.
EDUCATION:-
The late Hon. Gideon Saul started his education in Mungala Primary School where he studied from 1966 to 1973. He later joined Mumbuni Boys secondary school ( Kwa Kivuu) in 1974, eventually graduating in 1978 with a Kenya Certificate of Education (KCE). He attended Kigali Teachers’ College in Embu where he trained as a primary school teacher and obtained a PTE Certificate in 1988. He pursued further training at Scott Theological College where he acquired a Diploma in Leadership.
WORK LIFE:-
The late Hon. Gedion worked briefly with PJ Sweet Company in 1979 before venturing in teaching. From 1st September, 1980 he was employed by the Teachers Service Commission as an untrained teacher while undergoing in -service training. He later become a fully trained teacher in 1988 and
has worked in various schools like; Kisovo primary, Kombu Primary, Kathalani primary, Kathese Primary, Ikokani primary, Mung'ala primary and
Miwongoni primary. He was a senior teacher at Mung'ala primary school and at the same time contributed to the development of Masaku Teachers Sacco, where he served as a treasurer and played a crucial role in the establishment of Kibwezi Funeral Home.
MARRIAGE:-
The late Gideon Saul Kavuu met the love of his life Ruth Kamene and they got married in a wedding ceremony in 1985. Together they were blessed with three children George Mumo, Rhoda Kaluki, David Kavuu and various grandchildren ; Milcah, Ngumbau, Saul, Muasa, Nelson, Brian Kavuu, Dennis and Shawn. He was a dedicated family man performing his role as an intentional father and a loving husband. He was always ready to provide resolve and support when called upon and will be remembered as a pillar of strength and wisdom.
CHRISTIAN LIFE:-
The late Hon. Gedion Kavuu's faith was an integral part of his life and he was a devoted Christian at AIC Kasinga and later joined AIC Mungala where he was baptized. He served as a church treasurer and also served in Christian education department (CED) as a Sunday Teacher, Choir Chairman and camp director (CYA) and a member of the District Church Council for many years. In 2023 he joined AIC Baraka and served in the church until his demise. His contributions to the development of numerous churches in Mumbuni North Ward are a testament to his unwavering faith.
POLITICAL CAREER/ LEADER:-
Late Gedion began politics in September 2012 when he was elected as a councilor through a by election. Due to his dedication to public service, he secured the seat of member of county assembly (MCA) in March 2013, and served upto 2017. After 2017 elections, he continued his patriotic duty of serving the constituents of Mumbuni North Ward without holding an elective post. His fortitude saw him clinch the same seat (MCA) in the year 2022 general election and continued to serve until his untimely demise. Throughout his tenure, he contributed immensely towards the development of Mumbuni North Ward. In the early stages of his political career, he held the esteemed position of Deputy Minority Whip in the Machakos County
Assembly. During his first term of service Hon. Gideon served in the following committees; Ward development Fund, education and vocational training, Justice and legal affairs, Trade and Planning. He was a member of labour, public service and ICT Committee culture and Tourism Committee as well as committee on implementation.
SICKNESS / DEMISE:-
The late Hon. Gedion Kavuu was diagnosed with diabetes in the year 2000. He effectively managed his health condition for over twenty years with the help and support of his loving family. On the 14th of August 2023, after a medical checkup at Nairobi Hospital, he appeared to be in good health.
He managed to attend the Devolution Conference in Eldoret on 16th August 2023. On the 19th of August 2023 he felt unwell and was rushed to Bristol Park Hospital where he passed on at 3.00p.m on the same day. left us with precious memories of you as a husband, father, brother, grandfather, Uncle, Friend, Patriot, mentor and a servant of the Lord until we meet again, rest with the heavenly angels. Amen.
