Plaid Cymru have a long history discriminating against non-Welsh speakers. Ex-leader Adam Price demanded to know why Welsh speaking wasn't an essential skill for a director post. Perhaps because it would exclude 80% of Welsh people...
Unfortunately, the likes of Price often get their way. Welsh Government official Dominic Houlihan assured Price another similar role, Director of Culture, was open only to Welsh speakers. Disgraceful. There's no excuse for this.
What's more, the job Price was asking about, Director of Education, had Welsh speaking as a "desirable" criteria. Yet he still wasn't happy. They just keep pushing and pushing.
Most Welsh people don't speak Welsh. Job opportunities should not be restricted to a small minority. Save for obvious exemptions like translators, it should be illegal for public sector jobs to be open only to Welsh speakers. "Welsh language desirable" should be banned too, as it puts off capable Welsh people from applying.
Plaid Cymru have long operated like a small yet well organised club, seeking to limit opportunities to those they consider their own. If they win in May, discrimination against non-Welsh speakers will get worse. You have been warned ...
