Labour’s faltering growth agenda took another hit yesterday after the Bank of England cut its forecast for UK GDP and cautioned that job losses are set to rise.
The Bank now expects the economy to grow by just 0.9 per cent in 2026, down from its earlier 1.2 per cent projection, and warned that unemployment will climb to 5.3 per cent — pushing more than 70,000 additional people out of work.
The downgrade comes only a fortnight after Rachel Reeves flew to Davos to assure the World Economic Forum’s global audience that “this is the year Britain turns the corner.”
