Описание: The town of Ubud on the island of Bali caters to a particular kind of foreign tourist. There is a local economy largely based on what we loosely refer to as "Yoga tourism", as there are a large number of yoga teachers, meditation retreats, and healing massage vendors. As such, the restaurant offerings lean towards vegan and vegetarian options geared to Western tastes. We have found it more than a little challenging to source good local food here that isn't aimed at the palates and wallets of foreigners!
After much research and a lot of walking, we came across this place: Puteri Minang Padang Food. This kind of food is not, strictly speaking, Balinese, it's from west Sumatra and it takes its name from the capital city of west Sumatra - Padang. There are a few places like this in Ubud, but it takes a little more work to find them, as nearly all the restaurants in the town offer the standard nasi goreng and mie goreng staples (with maybe a few other Indonesian dishes), along with a slew of more western offerings like hamburgers, pizza, eggs Benedict, and so on. So if you'e looking for Indonesian food that isn't just nasi goreng or mie goreng, this is good food eaten by many locals and in can't be beat in both flavour and price!
